Hateful conduct policy

Hateful conduct policy

Hateful Conduct: You may not incite, threaten, or directly attack others based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious illness.  We also don't allow accounts whose primary purpose is to incite harm toward others based on the above categories.

Hateful images and display names: You may not use hateful images or symbols in either your profile photo or header image.  You may not use your username, display name, or profile bio to engage in abusive behavior, such as harassing specific people, or expressing hatred toward a person, group of people, or protected group.

the reason

Our mission that we at LibonPost strive to achieve is to give everyone the ability to create and share ideas and information, and to express their opinions and beliefs without restrictions.  There is no doubt that freedom of expression is the right of every human being.  Therefore, we believe that every person in this life has an opinion and has the right to express it.  Our role is to enrich dialogue among everyone, which requires the interaction of diverse viewpoints and opinions.

We recognize that people being exposed to abusive behavior on Libyan Post may detract from their ability to express themselves.  Research has shown that some groups of people are disproportionately exposed to abusive behavior online.  This includes: women, people of color (non-white European), lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, bisexual, asexual, marginalized groups Which has not received fair representation throughout history.  For people from multiple marginalized groups, the abusive behaviors they experience may be more common, more severe in nature, and more damaging.

We pledge to address abusive behavior that occurs out of hatred, prejudice, or bigotry, especially behavior that seeks to suppress the voices of people who have been marginalized throughout history.  That's why we prevent behavior that targets people in a protected group for the purpose of offending them.

If you see anything on LibonPost that violates our hateful behavior policy, please report it to us.

When does this apply?

We will review and take action on reports of accounts targeting an individual or group of individuals through any of the following behaviors, whether in Tweets or direct messages.

Violent threats

We prohibit any content that contains violent threats towards a specific person or group of people.  Violent threats are statements that indicate an intent to cause physical injury that may be serious or permanent and may result in death or serious injury to the affected person, for example, "I will kill you."

Note: We have a very strict policy regarding violent threats.  The accounts of people posting violent threats will be suspended immediately and permanently.

Expressing a desire or wish for serious harm to a person or group of people

We prohibit any content that desires, wishes, or incites death, serious bodily harm, or serious illness to an individual or group of individuals who belong to a protected class.  This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Wishing the death of an individual or group of individuals in a protected category as a result of a serious illness, for example, “I wish every [nationality] would get coronavirus (Covid) and die.”

Wishing someone would get into a serious accident, for example: “I hope you get run over by a car if you speak again.”

Declaring that a group of individuals deserves to suffer serious physical injury, for example, “If this group doesn't shut up [racially], they deserve to be shot.”

Inciting others to commit acts of violence against an individual or group based on their perceived membership in a protected class, for example, “I'm in the mood to hit [racially], who's with me?”

References to mass killings, violent events, or specific means of violence, the main targets and most of whose victims are protected groups.

We prohibit targeting people with content that refers to forms of violence or violent incidents that were primarily experienced by a protected group of people, provided that the content is intended to harass the target group.  This includes, but is not limited to, sending the following to someone:

Media depicting victims of the Holocaust

Media depicting people hanged

Incitement against protected groups

We prohibit inflammatory behavior that targets individuals or groups of individuals in protected classes.  This includes content aimed at:

Spreading frightening stereotypes about a protected group, including asserting that members of a protected group are highly likely to engage in dangerous or illegal activities, for example: “All followers of [a particular religion] are terrorists.”

Incite others to harass members of a protected class on the platform or in person, for example, “I'm tired of people [of a certain religion], thinking they're better than us. If any of you see someone wearing [a religious symbol of that religion], forcibly remove it and post Picture that!"

Inciting others to discriminate by refusing to support the economic enterprise of an individual or group of individuals because of their perceived membership in a protected class, for example, “If you go to a [religion] store, you are supporting these [racist slurs], let's stop giving our money to them.” [Religious slander].”  This may not include content intended to be political in nature, such as political commentary or content related to boycotts or protests.

Note that content intended to incite violence against a protected class is prohibited for the sole purpose of expressing a desire, wishing, or advocating serious harm to a person or groups of people.

We prohibit targeting people and groups with content intended to spread scary stereotypes about a protected group, including asserting that members of a protected group are highly likely to engage in dangerous or illegal activities, for example: “All followers of [a particular religion] are terrorists.” ".

Repeated and/or objectionable insults, epithets, racist or sexist slurs, or any other content that insults any person.

We prohibit targeting people with repeated insults or slurs, or any content for the purpose of dehumanizing or belittling a protected group or spreading negative or harmful stereotypes about them.  This includes assigning transgender people to a gender other than the one they identified themselves with or calling them by their names before the transition process.

We also prohibit the dehumanization of a group of people on the basis of religion, caste, age, disability, serious illness, national origin, race or ethnicity.

Hate images

We view hate images as slogans, symbols or images that are intended to incite hostile and evil actions against others on the basis of race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity or country of origin.  Some examples of hateful images include, but are not limited to:

Symbols that are historically associated with hate groups (for example: Nazi swastikas)

Images that degrade others and place them as less than human, or images that are modified to include hate symbols, for example: modified images of people with animal characteristics

Images modified to include hate symbols or references to mass killings targeting a protected group, for example: altered images of people with a yellow Star of David, to symbolize the Holocaust.

Media that includes hateful imagery is not allowed in a live video, bio, profile photo, or header.  All other similar media must be marked as sensitive media. Additionally, sending unsolicited hate images to someone is a violation of our Abusive Behavior Policy.

Do I have to be the person harmed by this content for it to be considered a violation of the LibonPost rules?

Some Tweets may appear hateful when viewed individually, but when viewed in the context of a larger conversation, they appear anything but.  For example, members of a protected group may refer to each other with terms that are usually considered offensive by that group. However, when these terms are used and are acceptable among them, they are not offensive, but rather a way to remember words that have previously been used to disdain members of that group.

When we review this type of content, it may not be clear whether it is intended to harass an individual because of their membership in a protected group, or whether it is in the context of an acceptable conversation.  To help our teams understand the context of the conversation, we may sometimes need to hear directly from the person involved to ensure we have the required information before taking effective action.

Note: The person in question does not need to be a member of a specific protected group for us to take action.  We will never ask individuals to prove or deny their membership in any particular protected group, nor will we search for such information.

Consequential actions

Under this policy, we take action against hateful conduct that targets individuals or an entire protected group, as described above.  These behaviors may occur in many ways, for example: with gestures, including a picture of a person, referring to someone by their full name, and other behaviors.

When determining the penalty for violating this Policy, we consider a number of factors including, but not limited to, the severity of the violation and the violating individual's prior history of law violations.  For example, we might require someone to remove content that violates our rules and to remain in read-only mode for a period of time before they can Tweet again.  Repeated violations will result in longer periods of read-only mode, and may ultimately be grounds for permanent account suspension.  If an account primarily engages in abusive behavior, or if we believe it has posted a violent threat, we will permanently suspend the account upon initial review.
